Coachella Valley Picks EcoMotion for Next Step in Regional Efficiency Planning

Cities in Edison Territory to get Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Climate Action Plans

As part of its ongoing regional planning effort, the Coachella Valley Association of Governments has selected EcoMotion to complete greenhouse gas inventories and energy and climate action plans for six cities and one tribal entity served by Southern California Edison. The work will start immediately and be completed by November, 2012.

The Green Government Initiative implements elements of the California Energy Efficiency Strategic Plan, focusing in particular on building efficiency and on creating a template for comprehensive regional planning. EcoMotion and its principals have a history of working with local governments in California, and much of that effort has been in the Coachella Valley – with the Community Energy Partnership and currently with the City of Palm Desert. EcoMotion completed a greenhouse gas inventory and Sustainability Action Plan for Palm Desert in 2010.

“We see this project as a great opportunity for the Coachella Valley,” said Ted Flanigan, President of EcoMotion. “Communities that have not yet clearly identified their energy efficiency opportunities or taken a careful look at their footprints will do so. Those that have begun will get a more refined analysis and course of action.”

The team assembled by EcoMotion promises strong project management skills, coordination with local talent and resources, and a deep understanding of climate baselines and mitigation strategies. In addition, EcoMotion’s plans include a local office and student component.

“The potential for the Green Government Initiative is great,” said Virginia Nicols, Corporate and Community Relations at EcoMotion and manager for EcoMotion’s part of the project. “The challenge will be to coordinate the efforts of all the cities and the various contractors for results that are truly relevant to the community.”
