EcoMotion Joins University of Phoenix in Solar System Donation

Boys and Girls Club of Pomona Valley Receives 5 kW Solar Electricity System

The Boys and Girls Club of Pomona Valley will soon have a secret – a solar system on the roof of its teen center. The out-of-sight placement of the system, determined as much by the roof design as by considerations for security, won’t diminish the importance of the system to the Club.

Victor Caceres, Executive Director of the Club, is excited about this opportunity. “We try to teach our members the importance of caring for the environment, and the Solar System is a significant Green change that will lead the way for other efforts in the organization. It will also bring down our energy costs at a time when tough economic conditions make it hard to raise money for operations.”

The system is a donation from the University of Phoenix. “”We want to give back to the communities where we are active,” said Jody Skenderian, Director of Community Relations. “The Boys and Girls Club seemed a place where a solar donation could make a difference, both educationally and financially.”

The University of Phoenix contacted EcoMotion to manage the project. Initial interviews and site visits were part of the selection process, as were written applications by the different Clubs contacted. “EcoMotion was pleased when Pomona came out the winner,” said Drew Lowell-Britt, Solar Specialist for EcoMotion and manager for this project. “The roof is perfect for solar, and we have good contacts among the local installer community.”

SoCal Solar Energy is handling the installation, which is scheduled to be completed by Earth Day. The Boys and Girls Club, University of Phoenix, and EcoMotion are already making plans for a festive “Connection Celebration” to involve 400 students and staff of the Club, city officials and representatives from the local business community.
