In October, 2008, EcoMotion and Solar Energy International joined forces and headed to Spain! After a highly successful 2007 trip to Germany, our team traveled to Spain, the country with highest solar insolation levels in all of Europe! This is one reason why Spain surged in 2008 to the number two position in the world in solar installations. The other, of course, is its Solar Feed-In Tariff. The Spain 2008 Solar Research Tour started in Madrid on Sunday, October 5, then continued over the course of a week to Seville and Alicante to end in Barcelona. Following EcoMotion tradition, the group travelled by train and public transportation. Days were full, with different guided tours, presentations by different professional industry groups and researchers.
Feed-In Tariff
Like Germany, Spain offers a "feed-in tariff" for solar installations. That is, it promises a fixed payment for 25 years for both solar photovoltaic and solar thermal electricity production. Now operating in 37 countries around the world, FITs are viewed by many people in the industry as the key to deployment of clean energies. High-level political figures are joining a number of FIT supporters who want to bring this policy to the U.S., where it is just appearing.The Tours
