GGUSD Wins $2 Million Grant from Water Resources Control Board thanks to Climate Smart Schools

Climate Smart Schools was pleased to hear the news: Garden Grove Unified School District was selected to receive a DROPS program grant of $1.99, the full amount requested. Our team, led by Seth Jacobson of Climate Resolve and Ted Flanigan of EcoMotion, were able to a) craft a winning proposal, and b) that will serve as the spearpoint for a much broader initiative in the District, linking water and energy and carbon into a nexus on campuses.

Student Sustainability Councils have already been formed; subcommittees are working on a range of sustainability topics. The grant links GGUSD, Climate Smart Schools and Orange County Coastkeepers, a leading nonprofit focused on preserving the California coast in all its glory. The SWRCB grant not only provides for construction, but for student education and outreach. EcoMotion provides Technical Services for Climate Smart Schools.
