EcoMotion’s Top 10 2020 Highlights

EcoMotion’s Top 10 2020 Highlights

1. We’re proudest of our long-term working relationships with the City of Santa Monica for 13 years and LA Metro for eight, and the recent news that the latter contract has been extended for another three years.

2. For the Chula Vista Elementary School District we completed a district-wide solar feasibility analysis that resulted in board approval and bonding authority. EcoMotion now provides project oversight for the 49-site solar project that includes a microgrid at the District Office.

3. Also in Chula Vista, we managed the procurement of ten electric buses, their fast-charging equipment and charge management software, and utility infrastructure upgrade. For the District, our team is integrating solar, Ebus charging, and Low Carbon Fuel Standard credits.

4. This year we managed the completion of the largest corporate solar system in Orange County, expanding the Capital Group Companies’ solar system in Irvine from 1 MW to 2.5 MW. That’s another ten+ year relationship and another 7 major corporate rooftops now covered with photovoltaics.

5. Ted Flanigan was appointed Commissioner of Glendale Water and Power in 2020. His early board actions served to promote the nation’s largest virtual power plant using solar and battery energy storage.

6. Our team completed the project management of comprehensive school campus lighting retrofits in Murrieta; the LED retrofits cutting lighting energy costs by 45%. All exterior lighting installed at Dark Sky Association approved 3000 degrees Kelvin.

7. In 2020, we formed a partnership with GreenerU in Boston to promote EcoMotion’s Benefactor Investment Model (BIM). GreenerU and EcoMotion hosted a webinar on the BIM that featured EcoMotion consulting team member Mark Hopkinson.

8. In 2020, EcoMotion applied for BCorp status…and earned an initial score of 120! We need 83 to earn this status, and to join others that “Meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability of profit and purpose.” We’re pleased to join other BCorps that create positive impacts for their employees and their communities.

9. EcoMotion was selected by the Clean Power Alliance to develop 32 energy resiliency projects for its member agencies. The projects integrate solar, storage, and microgrid controls to provide energy and environmental savings, while reserving battery capacity for emergencies and to cover critical loads.

10. And like so many…EcoMotion was forced to change in 2020: We went completely virtual, giving up our beloved downtown office, readjusting the work/life balance. A great success of this transition were two highly successful, virtual job walks for solar projects on a combined 59 campuses. The job walk webinars were safe and efficient, conducted by EcoMotion’s senior solar specialist, Michael Ware.
