On March 1st Ted Flanigan was a guest lecturer at the Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Part of a new, interdisciplinary course called the “Climate Solutions Living Lab,” Ted presented EcoMotion”s work in “Crafting and Financing Carbon-Free Microgrids.” The two-hour presentation and workshop engaged Harvard students from the Law School, the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard Business School, Engineering, Urban Planning, and the School of Public Health.” The vision of Harvard Professor Jack Spengler, teams of students from these disciplines are working to develop on- and off- site climate solutions for the Harvard campus, which is itself a microgrid. Students are also catalyzing projects in Rhode Island and Alaska using environmental market mechanisms, including renewable energy certificates, efficiency and renewable projects, and carbon offsets. Students were especially interested in EcoMotion”s case studies with microgrid development at Santa Rita Union School District in Salinas, California, and the Campbell Union High School District in San Jose.
