EcoMotion’s Ted Flanigan Harvests 37 Energy Saving Ideas at High Sierra Fest

Mammoth Mountain Ski Area introduced its 2006 Off The Grid Energy Fest, held over the three days July 7-9, 2006, in the Town of Mammoth Lakes, California. Ted Flanigan, President of EcoMotion, was one of the featured speakers at the July 8th Smart Energy Workshops.

“Simple Fixes for Immediate Savings” filled the room to overflowing with an active and interested crowd, eager to share their own experiences as well as hear from Flanigan. “As soon as I met the people, I knew they would be the star of the program,” said Flanigan. “There were so many good ideas out there that we ran out of time trying to collect them all.” The list of Mammoth’s 37 energy saving ideas was published in EcoMotion’s recent e-newsletter and is available upon request from EcoMotion.

The workshops followed a Friday Kick-Off featuring live music from “Crosby Loggins and the Leadbirds,” with refreshment provided at Mammoth Brewing Company’s Energy Bar. Other Saturday events included a tour of the Mammoth Pacific Geothermal Plant, and presentations on renewable energy resources including wind, photovoltaics and hydrogen.

“We designed the festival to focus on what people can do,” said Lisa Isaacs, head of Mammoth Mountain’s Department of Environmental Programs. “We wanted it to be fun and highly interactive. We were looking for creativity – ideas that would be off the charts, off the wall! Ted’s presentation fit our design perfectly.”

EcoMotion has been working with the Town of Mammoth Lakes’ High Sierra Energy Initiative, a partnership administered by Southern California Edison. The Initiative seeks to raise awareness about energy efficiency and encourage residents of the area to make smart energy choices to protect their alpine climate. The Initiative sponsors an ongoing series of ads in local newspapers, works directly with residents and small businesses, and just published a first-of-its-kind building resource guide for High Sierra builders, contractors, architects, and homeowners.
