EcoMotion to Assist Brea in City-Wide Energy Efficiency Planning

Project Includes Improved Permitting, Building Management, and an Updated Municipal Energy Efficiency Plan

As a regional leader in energy efficiency and alternative energy planning, Brea is taking the next step in upgrading its municipal capabilities. Using funding by Southern California Edison, the City Council voted on August 16 to task environmental consulting firm

EcoMotion with three major efforts, to be completed over the next 15 months:

1. Install an online building permitting system that will speed the process and automatically flag energy efficiency opportunities for local residents, business owners and contractors.

2. Select and install “utility manager software” to allow the City to analyze energy usage in all its buildings, and manage them more efficiently.

3. Develop an energy efficiency blueprint for the City, as part of the City’s Climate Action Plan.

EcoMotion, headquartered in Irvine, has a long history of working with cities in Southern California, including the City of Brea. It brings to the table experience within local government building and energy management departments, inspired project management and ability to coordinate between contractors and City staff, and a practical and thorough understanding of energy reduction strategies.

“Brea already stands out as an environmental leader, having just completed the largest municipal solar installation in Orange County, “said Ted Flanigan, President of EcoMotion. “Now we’re ready to help them focus again on the opportunities to be found in energy efficiency.”

EcoMotion is doing similar work in the Coachella Valley under this same funding source. According to Virginia Nicols, head of Corporate and Community Relations at EcoMotion, “The Edison funding is allowing cities to move forward with important energy savings at a time when other resources may be limited.”
