EcoMotion is pleased to announce that Troy Strand had joined the EcoMotion Consulting Stable. Troy brings 24 years of solar experience to EcoMotion Solar Services. He’s worked many sides of the solar business, from utility, to academia, as a solar developer, and now consultant. He’s worked at Southern California Edison, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), and was founder and chief operating officer of Independent Energy Solutions, a photovoltaic system designer and installer that specialized in military, utility and commercial installations. Among his other specialties are the design and installation of remote power systems, notably a large micro-grid for a remote Caribbean Island and for U.S. embassies in Africa.
Troy has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and over 24 years of experience in system design, engineering, and integration of complex photovoltaic power systems. Throughout his career, he has personally overseen the design and installation of hundreds of photovoltaic, energy storage, and micro-grid power systems in the U.S. and around the world.
EcoMotion met Troy when Independent Energy Solutions bid and was selected to install a 993 kW system at the Capital Group Companies in Irvine. EcoMotion served as Owner’s Representative and admired right away Troy’s depth of knowledge and his ability to turn detailed understanding into a high-quality installation. “He’s the most knowledgeable solar expert we’ve met in seven years,” said Michael Ware, EcoMotion’s Senior Solar Specialist.
Troy served on the board of directors for the San Diego Chapter of CALSEIA. He has published numerous technical and white papers. He conducted pioneering solar research at the National Renewable Energy Laboratories. He has also served on several standards and code-making committees for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the National Electric Code (NEC Article 690). He is a member of the Society of American Military Engineers and a member of the Vistage Chief Executive Group 12.
For EcoMotion’s Consulting Stable, he brings great depth on solar and rounds out a robust stable of experts and expertise ranging from energy management, engineering, energy efficiency, climate sciences and social media. “We’re pleased to welcome Troy to the team. Already he has added valuable perspectives to our work for Los Angeles Metro system,” said Ted Flanigan, President of EcoMotion. “He’s one of the most respected authorities on solar energy in the country.”
